Maniwaki, a post town in Ottawa co., Ottawa district, at the confluence of River Desert and the Gatineau, the northern terminal station of the Maniwaki section of the C.P.R., 83 miles north of Ottawa city. It has 3 churches (Roman Catholic, Anglican and Presbyterian), 26 stores, 11 hotels, 3 saw mills, 1 bank (branch of Bank of Ottawa), 1 hospital, 1 school conducted by Grey Nuns of Ottawa. The Oblats Fathers have a mission for Indians at Gatineau and at St. Maurice. It has good water power derived from the Gatineau, which is to be utilized for electric lighting and factory purposes, it has also express, telegraph and telephone offices. Pop. 546.
